The sad truth
In the 2006-2007 financial year 67,703 dogs have been reclaimed, rehomed and euthanased Australia-wide. This was an incrase of 2% from the prior year. Of these numbers, Western Australia had a 26.4% increase. This shows a stark reality that the breeding and care of dogs needs greater control.
In the same year there were 2,896 reported cases of animal cruelty. Of those complaints only 41 cases ended in prosecution and 26 ending in convictions. Sound impressive? Hardly. Why are there so few convictions or prosecutions? Because the current law allows for too many loopholes. We need the law to change!
